Please plan to attend the Division's Business Meeting at the ASHA Convention Friday, November 19, immediately following the Division 3-sponsored Short Course at noon in the Marr Franklin Room. We’ll use this occasion to congratulate these ASHA honorees who are Division 3 affiliates: Thomas Murry and Ingo Titze, awarded Honors of the Association; Nadine P. Connor and Catriona Steele, Fellowship of the Association; and Michelle R. Ciucci, Early Career Contributions in Research.
I have focused on Division 3-sponsored highlights of the Convention below. To view all voice-related presentations, access the online Convention Program at http://www.asha.org/uploadedFiles/10ASHAConventionProgram.pdf
The Annual Kay Pentax Upper Airway Lecture is sponsored jointly by Division 3 and Division 13, Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders. The lecture is scheduled for Thursday, 1:00-3:00 p.m., in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, Room 201A. The presenter is Susan Thibeault of the University of Wisconsin. The hallmark of many laryngeal diseases is mucosal inflammation, the pathogenesis of which is linked to local immune responses. Mucosal immunity is determined by interaction among epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and immune cells in the epithelium and lamina propria. This lecture provides mechanistic insights into this immunity and its clinical relevance.
