This issue offers a new column to be regularly featured in the news-letter—Post laryngectomee Rehabilitation, edited by Phil Doyle. There are many clinical issues unique to this patient population that have yet to be fully addressed by Division 3. Phil brings considerable experience and expertise to this topic and, with his guidance, I’m confident that we’ll all grow as clinicians and that ultimately, our patients will benefit from our growth.
Borrowing an idea from other divisions’ newsletters, I asked a number of affiliates to provide a favorite clinical “tip” gained from their experience. I received a wonderfully diverse selection that you’ll find in the Clinical Nuggets column. Do you have a suggestion to share with your colleagues? This could be on any topic relevant to clinical practice in voice disorders: your favorite exercise for increasing appropriate breath support; a way to keep a child motivated for therapy; a trick for viewing anterior commisure in a difficult-to-strobe patient; suggestions for supervising a practicum student; or how to handle a tearful patient. Please contribute your clinical “nugget” to this newsletter. It can be as short as a single sentence or as long as a few paragraphs. If you don’t want your name published, that’s fine too; just let me know and it can be omitted.
