Dollars $$ Sense is a resource for Division 3 affiliates to find answers to questions on topics of Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding and reimbursement and International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD 9-CM) codes specific to evaluation and treatment of voice and upper airway disorders. Information from the 2006 Reimbursement Survey of Division 3 affiliates identified a number of areas where clarification and education may be helpful.
I am a member of ASHA’s Health Care Economics Committee (HCEC) and liaison to and member of the Division 3 Reimbursement Committee. This issue will tackle questions pertaining to the billing of CPT Codes 92506 (evaluation), 92520 (laryngeal function study) and 31579 (laryngeal videostro-boscopy)…but first, we need to re-visit The National Correct Coding Initiative discussed in our last Perspectives issue.
