The information provided in the last two issues of this newsletter has made it clear that the role of the speech-language pathologist in treating the child voice has developed considerably over the last 10 years. The clinical management has resulted in identifying the role of certain disease processes and their influence on the management of children’s voice disorders. Technological advances have sustained the life of the medically fragile child and have diagnosed congenital conditions before the child is born. Over time, the medically fragile children with these conditions become mainstreamed into regular school based settings thus, extending the traditional role of the speech-langugage pathologist and multi-disciplinary team.
