Voice research at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary (MEEI) in Boston, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, is primarily carried out by a multidisciplinary team of investigators using two specialized laboratories: the Voice and Speech Laboratory, which is a hybrid facility designed to integrate clinical and research activity, and the Harris Peyton Mosher Laryngological Research Laboratory, which is equipped for more basic work in anatomy, histology, and electro-physiology. Investigators perform grant-funded research that focuses primarily on normal and disordered voice and speech production. Projects involve investigations ranging from basic studies of laryngeal electrophysi-ology and computer modeling of vocal cord vibration to clinically-based investigations of the efficacy of methods used to treat voice disorders (including the development of new laryngeal surgical approaches).
