On the other side of Convention, the reality of a successful division-sponsored slate is now history. Julie Barkmeier’s mini-seminar was packed and very informative—speaking from firsthand participation. Our Short Course with Steve McFarlane, Joe Stemple, and Nelson Roy was totally sold out and could have captured at least 40 or 50 more participants, if our assigned room had been larger. Again, special thanks for all affiliates who participated in making voice sciences/disorders contributions at ASHA.
For those unable to attend the Convention or the affiliates meeting on Thursday, I wanted to provide an update. ASHA has requested we urge all members to increase their involvement in the electoral process. Last year’s elected officers and Legislative Council members were selected, based on only 9% membership participation. At the very least, ASHA is urging your vote but would also encourage assistance with the nomination process as well. As this is an annual process, please be prepared to participate more fully with the next opportunity. Second, we discussed our desire to be involved with the Breakfast With the Experts forum for Convention 2000. While affiliate response was uniformly positive, the program committee decided not to continue that format based on underwhelming response in 1999.
